The Big Paddle is going on tour! This summer the Big Paddle will be touring the UK, stopping off at three destinations, with tours, workshops, games, races, and general paddling fun. There’s something for everyone, so whether you fancy trying canoeing for the first time, want some coaching or advice, or have a winning cardboard canoe design, come along and join us for a paddle!
Join us for a paddle!
If you want to have a go at canoeing, kayaking, or stand up paddling for the first time, then come along! Our friendly and expert staff will provide you with all the instruction and gear you need! Be careful however, once you’ve had a go you’ll definitely be keen for more!
No need to organise a shuttle! At each of our tour venues, we will provide directions and details, so all you need to do is turn up and get on the water. No worries!
Ever wondered what that bird is, or why that weir was built? For those who like to delve a little deeper into their surroundings, we’ll be providing guided nature/history tours with local experts, so you can learn whilst you paddle!
Workshops – on and off the water
Whether you want to brush up on your technique, or simply some advice on safety and gear, we’ll have expert instructors on hand, offering workshops and clinics to offer just the help you need, both on and off the water.
Challenges and games
See if you can set the winning time on the Ergo challenge, how accurate are you with a throw rope? Prizes and fun for all the family; classic fairground games with a paddling twist!
Cardboard canoe race
The infamous cardboard canoe race is always a highlight. Make your own before you arrive, or turn up and get building on the day.
We’ll be bringing a wide range of gear to try out, and some of our design/development team will be on hand to answer any questions you may have.
With a huge range of gear at great prices, each big paddle will have a local shop on hand to cater for all of your gear based needs.
WHere can I park?
There will be parking provided at each event, however we recommend sharing lifts where possible to minimise traffic and environmental impact.
How much does it cost?
Our primary aim is to get as many people along as possible and involved in paddling, so we’re putting on the events for free! If you do come along and enjoy we’ll be asking for a voluntary donation of £5 which will go towards a local charitable cause.
What if I’ve never been in a canoe/kayak before?
We have an expert team of instructors on hand to take you through the basics, and teach you all you need to know. Canoeing/kayaking are watersports, and it’s possible you might get wet, so we don’t recommend wearing your Sunday best!
